Feeling Lost? How to Recenter Yourself While Grieving

Grief is a difficult emotion that many people feel unprepared to face. There are many different kinds of grief, and every person may experience grief in their own unique way. It is not uncommon for people to feel lost when they grief, particularly if they are dealing with the death of a close loved one. You might find it difficult to concentrate on daily tasks, or you might not know where to start picking up the pieces after the death of a spouse or friend. No matter what you’re experiencing, take the time to consider the following ways that you can recenter your mind while grieving.

Write down your feelings

One way that you can recenter yourself while feeling grief is to write down your feelings. Writing down your feelings will help you to better understand your emotions and thought processes while you grieve. You could also write a letter to the loved one you have lost; if you have an AFTR or similar system, reading it through the audio feed could be a cathartic way to express emotions.

Meditate

Meditation can be a great way to recenter your mind and refocus on life and yourself. Even a simple quiet meditation can help you to come to peace with certain feelings that you are dealing with during your period of grief.

Take a walk

Like meditation, taking a walk is an excellent way to recenter yourself by allowing your mind to relax and refocus. A walk around the neighborhood or in a nearby park can be the perfect way to soothe your mind and recenter.

Write down goals and tasks

One of the more common side effects of grief is an ability to focus on daily tasks. If you find that you are getting overwhelmed to the point that you can’t focus, start writing down your tasks and goals. A daily to-do list can help you feel more productive, and overarching goals can give you something else to focus on after the death of a loved one.

Remember, it is not uncommon to feel lost or aimless after the death of a loved one. Taking the time to recenter yourself can help you deal with the difficult feelings of grief.
